Nellie DeProspero DeAntonis, age 95 of Westover passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 peacefully in her sleep. She was born April 18, 1914 in Bogonaturo, Italy the first child of Antonio and Angelina Masterogusippi DeProspero.
The family arrived in Morgantown, WV in 1929 and started the original Mona Supply Company Family business in Granville.
Nellie married Joseph DeAntonis in 1936 and together they owned and operated Jo’s Globe Distributing from 1956 to 1985.
She was a 1935 graduate of University High School and was a lifetime member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Nellie was a loving outgoing lady, whose home was always open for family and friends to gather. She will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking and generous heart.
Nellie is survived by one son Raymond DeAntonis and wife Jean and one daughter JoAnn DeAntonis Gamble and husband Jack, two sisters, Ida DeCarlo and Jessie Volk, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Joseph DeAntonis and brothers Dominic and Quinto DeProspero.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM with a Vigil Service at 8:00 PM Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church with Father Leon Alexander as celebrant. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Francis DeSales Roman Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
